    Историк, известный своими работами по истории Испании и ее колоний. Внук героя Войны за независимость полковника У. Прескотта [ Prescott, William]. Окончил Гарвардский университет [ Harvard University]. После несчастного случая практически ослеп. Его работы "История завоевания Мексики" ["History of the Conquest of Mexico"] (3 тома, 1843), "История завоевания Перу" ["History of the Conquest of Peru"] (1847) и "История правления Филиппа II" ["History of the Reign of Philip the Second"] (3 тома, 1855-58, не закончена) стали классикой жанра. Исторические факты раскрываются через воспоминания, рассказы очевидцев и т.п. В его честь назван г. Прескотт в Аризоне
